Repair or replace is a math question before it is a comfort question
Our team does both, which is exactly why we would rather tell you honestly which one applies. A repair that gets a system through another two summers is usually the right answer. A system that keeps failing, keeps costing more each time, and is already behind on efficiency is a different conversation, and we have that conversation plainly rather than defaulting to whichever answer is more work for us.
What changes when it becomes a replacement
Design and fabrication happen in our own warehouse rather than at a supplier, so a replacement is sized to the actual house rather than fitted to whatever arrived on a truck. Financing available with approved credit. Minimum loan amount of $1,000 to $3,000 based on loan approval.

Four things worth weighing before either answer
AGE
Past ten to twelve years
Not a hard cutoff, but the point where a major component failure, a compressor or a coil, starts to cost close to what a new system would, on equipment already past its most efficient years.
REPEAT CALLS
The same fault, twice in a season
A part that failed once can be a bad part. A part that failed once and then failed again nearby is usually telling you the system around it is under more strain than it was built for.
EFFICIENCY GAP
SEER2 left on the table
Equipment specified a decade or more ago sits well under what a current system rates. Replacing it changes the monthly bill, not only the comfort on a hot afternoon.
REFRIGERANT
Older refrigerant, harder to source
Systems built around older refrigerants get more expensive to service as supply tightens. A leak repair on one of these can cost more than the leak itself would suggest.

It is built to our specification, so it can only be fitted by us. One installed system, photographed on site, carries the Black Diamond name alongside an R32 designation on a level pad beside the house it serves.

Ask which tier suits the house, not the budget
Sometimes the honest answer is the cheaper tier. We would rather say that once than sell the wrong system once.
